Question:
How can I change/set the units of measurement?
In Plan7Architect, the “1:100” value you see in the Scale field is simply a ratio — it means 1 unit on the drawing equals 100 units in real life.
It is not metric or imperial by itself — just a proportional relationship.
For example:
-
1:100 → 1″ on screen equals 100″ in reality.
-
1:48 → 1″ on screen equals 48″ in reality (this is the same as 1/4″ = 1′).
-
1:96 → 1″ on screen equals 96″ in reality (this is the same as 1/8″ = 1′).
If you’re using 1/8″ per 6″ or 1/4″ per foot, both equal a 1:48 ratio — the most common U.S. architectural scale.
To set your scale correctly:
-
Go to Settings → Units and choose Feet & Inches.
-
Under Scale, type or select 1:48.
-
If you’ve imported a scanned or JPEG drawing, use Scale / Calibrate on a known measurement (for example, trace over a 12′ wall and set that line to exactly 12′ 0″).
-
Your image will then be perfectly scaled, and you can continue drawing over it in real dimensions.
Common U.S. architectural scales for reference:
| Scale (inches per foot) | Ratio |
|---|---|
| 1/8″ = 1′ | 1:96 |
| 3/16″ = 1′ | 1:64 |
| 1/4″ = 1′ | 1:48 |
| 3/8″ = 1′ | 1:32 |
| 1/2″ = 1′ | 1:24 |
| 1″ = 1′ | 1:12 |
This lets you design in real-world dimensions while displaying or printing your project in any U.S. architectural scale you prefer.
